Useful Measurements. The number of square feet in an acre is 43,660. In order to have this area the piece of land must be of such a length and breadth that the two multiplied together will! produce the above number. Thus, an acre of land might be 43,5C0 feet long by one foot broad; 15,187 feet long by threeffeet broa$, 7,594 feet long by six feet broad, and so on . If the acre of land is to be exactly square, each side must be as nearly as possible 208 feet 5 inches. The nearest you can come to an exactly square acre with'an even number of feet in the side is to make it 20 feet long by 198 broad. s - The best and cheapest m the world. On to the Sound. A railroad to the Sound seems now to be a fixed fact. ' A number of gentlemen of energy, ability and capital have the matter in hand and are,, confident of building the road at a very early date. They have been agitating this matter for some time past and at an informal meet ting held by them a few evenings ago the matter look a definite shape. With a view of giving the public a correct un derstanding and to allow them a chance to engage in the enterprise, a meeting has been called for next Monday evening at the Court House at 8 o'clock. The plans etc, will then be explained and subscription books opened. Over five eighths of the amount required to con struct and put in operation this much needed road has already been raised, and the projectors, in coming before the pub lic with so much of the stock already subscribed, give a guarantee that this is no idle speculation. In addition to the railroad a Tery large and desirable tract of land has been secured on which to erect depots, hotels etc. Now that the ball is fairly in motion we are confident that the matter will be pushed and that the long desired railroad to the Sound- will soon be built and in operation.
